Backstage – The Real Reason You’re Not Getting Auditions (+ How to Change It), By Casey Mink

You already know Backstage is the go-to for any and all information pertaining to your craft. But now, you have the chance to get in on the action with the Backstage Community Forum. Here, you can engage with others in your industry, as well as teachers, experts, and, yep, even agents and casting directors. Below are some of this week’s most interesting new topics; drop a reply or post a new thread. Either way, fire up that keyboard and get involved right here!
Why am I not getting seen by casting?
“I recently received my talent report that shows my agent was actively submitting me almost every day of the week for the past year, sometimes multiple times per day, but December and January have been really slow. I’m being submitted for projects with casting directors who know me and know I am a good actor that can book the role, I just haven’t been invited for any auditions. I have updated headshots on my profile, a brand new demo reel, slateshots attached to each headshot, and a pretty long list of credits on my résumé. So, what could be going on?” —Xeldin01 Read Entire Artice Here

The Hollywood Reporter – Box-Office Preview: ‘Glass’ to Rule Over ‘The Kid Who Would Be King,’ ‘Serenity’ During Quiet Weekend, By Pamela McClintock

Elsewhere, ‘Green Book’ and ‘BlacKkKlansman’ plot major expansions after scoring Oscar nominations for best picture.

M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass is expected to stay full enough its second weekend to stay atop the domestic box office ahead of new offerings The Kid Who Would Be King and Serenity, an indie pic starring A-list stars Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway.

The latter part of January is generally quiet for film releases, and this year is no exception.

Elsewhere, Peter Farrelly’s Green Book and Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman are plotting major expansions after scoring best picture Oscar nominations earlier this week. Adam McKay’s Vice and Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Favourite, also contenders for best picture, are likewise hoping for a major boost. Read Entire Artice Here

Variety – Oscars: Most of the Best Song Nominees Won’t Perform on Telecast, By Jon Burlingame

Only two of this year’s five Oscar-nominated songs may be performed live on the Academy Awards show Feb. 24, Variety has learned.

Multiple sources tell Variety that the two biggest chart hits — Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “All the Stars” from “Black Panther” and Lady Gaga’s “Shallow” from “A Star Is Born” — are the two chosen by Academy execs and show producers for performance on the telecast.

The other three — “The Place Where Lost Things Go” from “Mary Poppins Returns,” “I’ll Fight” from “RBG” and “When a Cowboy Trades His Spurs for Wings” from “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs” — would likely be acknowledged only during the announcement of the song nominees. Rumors of their exclusion is already causing consternation among members of the music branch as well as among those nominees’ respective camps. Read Entire Artice Here
