Hi everybody, I’m Yi Tian of the Actors Reporter and welcome to the TradeVine. Our goal at the TradeVine is to help you stay informed and to keep up with some of the entertainment news you may have missed in the Trades, such as The Hollywood Reporter, Daily Variety, and Backstage.

Back Stage, January 28th – How To Get an Agent To Respond To You, by Gwyn Gilliss. To get an agent to respond to your marketing materials or to build your network of casting directors here are some tips from acting teacher Gwyn Gilliss. First, WHO to contact? Choose 6-12 agents. Try to select some offices that are somewhat new or agents who are recently franchised after working for a top Agent and are branching out on their own, who are likely looking for new clients to build their roster. Next, know WHEN to contact them? When you have at least an excellent headshot and perhaps a 50 second demo that is recent so they can see your work, your “look” or type or when you’ve booked something substantial. Always have something of quality to report. HOW OFTEN to contact them? Once every 12-14 days but only with well-prepared and simple info. WHAT to say: Your marketability. Your castability. Your likeability. HOW to say it:  Agents jump on anything that bespeaks working, i.e. making money. Win-Win!

Hollywood Reporter, January 29th – CBS Renews Entire Daytime Lineup, by Michael O’Connell. CBS has given the green light for its entire daytime lineup to return through the 2013-2014 season. The network announced that The Bold and the Beautiful, The Talk, The Price is Right and Let’s Make a Deal will all join the previously renewed The Young and the Restless on next year’s schedule, which is good news for actors. CBS has successfully transitioned their daytime schedule to a balance of program genres with new creative energy, while maintaining their ratings leadership.

Daily Variety, January 29th – Film academy receives trove of posters, by Jon Weisman. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has received a donation of more than 1,000 original B movie posters from the first half of the 20th century. Chicago real estate developer and noted collector Dwight Cleveland made the donation, which includes a variety of genres such as westerns, war films, musicals, biblical tales and social-issue cinema. “B-movies tap into the public consciousness and provide rich fodder for better understanding the times,” said Linda Mehr, director of AMPAS’ Margaret Herrick Library, which will house the collection. Posters in the Herrick Library collections are stored in climate-controlled vaults in Beverly Hills, where they can be accessed by filmmakers, historians, journalists, students and the general public.

Well, that’s it for the TradeVine this week. I’m Yi Tian. Thank you very much for watching. And remember, You heard it through the Tradevine!
