Steve Carell, Steve Buscemi, and Jim Carrey in a very magical movie.

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone: Two magicians (Steve Carell, Jim Carrey), with different styles, square off as there can be only one major star.

The Incredible Burt Wonderstone (2013)- Michael’s rating: *** stars
Runtime: 100 minutes
Rated: PG-13
Director: Don Scardino

I am a fan of both individuals. Carell has shown range in many of his films, and Carrey’s acting has already made me a believer. Despite some questionable choices by both men, how can it go wrong when they’re in a movie together.

Carell plays Burt Wonderstone, and along with his childhood friend/sidekick, Anton Marvelton (Steve Buscemi), they become Las Vegas’ biggest stars. Their shows are constantly selling out with the unique style of magic they bring to the table. Steve Gray (Jim Carrey) is a street magician with his own brand of physical uniqueness. As Steve’s star begins to rise, Burt’s begins to sink.

Jim Carrey stands out as the magic he performs was different. He’s always going to be the zany, goofy, fun-loving guy people have grown to love, but there is more here than meets the eye. I enjoyed his performance, and it left me wondering if this character could be a spinoff into another movie.

Quick rant: My fellow critics ripped this movie to shreds, and I have no idea why. I think my brand of humor differs from other reviewers. Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 36%. Really? Why, was it not funny enough? Did Carrey or Carell not do their justice in this movie? It makes no sense. Other critics have panned the movie, and as usual, they did not give it a chance. I enjoyed it, and hope everyone else will as well. Stay tuned!

Michael’s rating system:
1/2 Terrible movie (Bomb)
Not a good movie, just missed being a bomb
*1/2 Bad movie
** Boring movie
*** Good, solid movie
***1/2 Great movie, just missed being a classic
****Classic movie
