Hi everybody, I’m Andrea Rueda of the Actors Reporter and welcome to the TradeVine. Our goal at the TradeVine is to help you stay informed and to keep up with some of the entertainment news you may have missed in the Trades, such as The Hollywood Reporter, Daily Variety, and Backstage.

Back Stage, October 29th – 5 Ways To Work on Your Craft During Hurricane Sandy, by Denise Simon. Whether it is hurricane or a sick child keeping you home, we all have days when we can’t leave the house. While your first priority should be the safety of you and your family, if you find yourself with some free time, why not take advantage of it and find a productive way to fuel your craft? Here are five ideas to help you find some new, creative inspiration. 1. Write a monologue. Many students complain about material getting stale or worry about overdone pieces. Why not write your own? 2. Watch a film. 3. Read. Online or in print, it’s not difficult to find good reading material. 4. Develop a business action plan. And, 5. Tap into your emotional energy. Don’t let this moment pass you by. Stop, notice, and recall. Whatever you are feeling, channel your emotional life and sock it away the next time you need to access it.

Hollywood Reporter, October 30th – No TV Hockey Has Canadians Watching More American Shows, by Etan Vlessing. The NHL lockout is good news for domestic cable channels enjoying a surge of male viewers as CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada goes to re-runs on Saturday nights. NHL-starved rabid fans in Canada have tuned in elsewhere on the dial to watch their favorite American shows for an entertainment fix. This may get NHL team owners and players back to the negotiating table.

Daily Variety, October 30th – In Film News, Disney buys Lucasfilm, and a new ‘Star Wars’ is planned, by Marc Graser. The Walt Disney Co. has acquired control of the “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones” franchises through a $4.05 billion acquisition of George Lucas’ Lucasfilm. Immediate plans call for the studio to release “Star Wars: Episode 7” in 2015, with two additional sequels to follow. The deal not only gives Disney control of the “Star Wars” franchise, but also Lucasfilm’s live action film production, consumer products, animation, visual effects, and audio post production units. Said George Lucas, chairman and CEO of Lucasfilm, “For the past 35 years, one of his greatest pleasures has been to see ‘Star Wars’ passed from one generation to the next. It’s now time to pass ‘Star Wars’ on to a new generation of filmmakers.”

Well, that’s it for the TradeVine this week. I’m Andrea Rueda. Thank you very much for watching. And remember, You heard it through the Tradevine!
