August 7th – National Friendship Day! Friendship Day celebrations take place on the first Sunday of August every year. The tradition of dedicating a day in honor of friends began in US in 1935. On this day people spend time with their friends and express love for them. Exchange of Friendship Day Gifts like flowers, cards and wrist bands is a popular tradition of this occasion. August 11th-18th – 7th Annual HollyShorts. The HollyShorts Film Festival (HSFF) is an annual film festival showcasing the best and brightest short films from around the globe. HollyShorts is devoted to the advancement filmmakers through screenings, Q&A sessions and networking events. The HollyShorts Film Festival showcases the top short films produced 30-minutes or less. August 11th -14th – The Official STAR TREK Convention in Las Vegas, NV celebrating the 45th Anniversary of Star Trek. The convention will be held at The Rio Suites Hotel

August 12th-September 8th – The 15th Annual DocuWeek. Screening in New York at the IFC Center and at the Laemmle Sunset 5 in Los Angeles, the 2011 edition of DocuWeeks™ will present seventeen feature films and seven shorts from sixteen different countries in theatrical runs designed to qualify the films for consideration for The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences’ annual Oscar® Awards – and give documentary fans a chance to catch some of the best documentary films of the year.


August 12th-14th – The Feel Good Film Festival. A non-profit film showcase encouraging the development, production, and distribution of short and feature length films with happy endings, that make audiences laugh, and that capture the beauty of our world. August 15th – The PUMA Creative Catalyst Awards deadline. The program of the Channel 4 BritDoc Foundation, is now open for entry to Quarter 3, 2011. What is it? Well, it is an international documentary development fund, offering 40 awards annually of up to 5,000 euros each. The fund is open to filmmakers of any nationality and grants will be awarded on a quarterly basis. Winners to be announced in October 2011.


August 21st, 2011, Taste of the Industry, 1:30p – 6:30p at the Atlanta Workshop Players Studio of the Arts, Alpharetta, Georgia. Actors can train with the best coaches and parents can learn the peoples fro representatives from The Acting Camp, Children in Film, J Pervis Talent, and others.
