The 80/20 principle: Eighty percent of your time should be listening and asking questions. The other 20 percent is reserved for talking about yourself, your elevator speech. You ask a few questions; you begin a relationship. Ask a few business questions, and you begin a business relationship.
So when you meet someone in a business networking environment, talk business first, and then speak of something personal. The personal can and will affect and cement your business side, especially if you have a hook…but remember what you’re there for. You’re there to get business.
And, remember, the way I do anything is the way I do everything!
