Your job as an actor is to show the CDs what they don’t know. Show them the present moment connectedness that grows out of strong, resonant choices. Show that you have the ability to make those choices personal by exploring the color, temperature, and texture of each choice so that the audition has the intimate feeling of a person revealing themselves, and all they have to offer, moment by moment. Show them you have the skill to make the words so much your own that they feel like they are hearing them for the very first time.

Variety, June 11th, Disney Theatrical Eyeing Muppets On Stage by Gordon Cox.

Disney Theatrical Productions has quietly initiated early explorations of a live stage show featuring the Muppets. They put on a brief showcase May 31 for a group of Disney staffers and a handful of others connected to the potential project, incorporating a handful of sets and more than 85 Muppets in an experiment intended to reveal whether it would even be feasible to present the Muppets in a live theatrical context. Time will tell whether this experiment will turn into a full fledge legit theater production.

Through a series of flashbacks, his life story unfolds as his greatest performances live again. Bob Gebert portrays the celebrated entertainer, from child prodigy through an appearance before the House Un-American Activities Committee.

Actors Day in LA with Bob Gebert’s one man show, DeMystifying Magic, at the Complex Theatre in Hollywood. DeMystifying Magic is a full-length one-man show created by actor, writer, magician Bob Gebert. Though packed with magic effects, it is much more than just a magic show. The show tracks a legendary performer’s career from age five to eight-five. We watch his life unfold through his on-stage performances.

Mystifying Magic was performed many times in the Houston area in the late 90′s. After a 12-yeah hiatus, the show has been dusted off and polished and is currently is being done in various venues in the Los Angeles area.
The show was presented as a staged reading at the KTC INKubator Series in Los Angeles in 2012.

As an actor, Bob Gebert has appeared in numerous network television shows including The Office, Monk, Criminal Minds, Lie To Me, and Party Down.  He has played major roles in a number of independent films and has performed in over 150 stage plays. He taught an on-going technique class to working actors at Actorsite.

As a writer, Bob sold a feature screenplay to Paramount and wrote and directed the multi award-winning independent feature film 11 Minutes Ago (www.11minutesagothemovie.com). Before moving to Los Angeles in 2000, he was the writer/artistic director for Renata’s Dinner Theater in Houston for six years. He oversaw 600+ performances of his plays.
As a magician, he began his professional career at age 16 performing magic for birthday parties and has since performed hundreds of shows for stage, corporate events and private parties. He was a “house magician” at Houston’s Magic Island performing in the close-up rooms. In 1995 he landed in Who’s Who In Magic for having written and starred in the long running stage play The Illusionist (no relation to the movie.) He is a magician member of the Magic Castle in Hollywood.

He is a co-founder of www.theatrics.com, which presents the innovative sci-fi web series, Beckinfield. Dubbed “Mass Participation TV”, Beckinfield allows anyone to create and play a character in the ongoing story. In addition to conceiving and co-creating the project, Bob continues to write the weekly scenarios as story sparks for hundreds of actors from all over the world who then create faux video diaries as “residents” of the small mysterious town of Beckinfield, CA.

Hollywood Reporter, May 30th – The Top 25 Drama Schools in the World, by Tim Appelo.

New York’s Juilliard School leads the pack as The Hollywood Reporter ranks the programs where Meryl Streep, Jessica Chastain and Jon Krasinski learned the ropes. Here are the top five: 1. The Juilliard School, New York City. Graduates emerge with formidable language skills, script savvy and thick skins. 2. Yale School of Drama, New Haven, Conn. At Yale, students aren’t in an ivory tower; they’re at center stage of the national theater world, with a shot at movies and TV too. 3. Tisch School of the Arts, NYU New York City. They have a power city to draw from, an acting school, directors, writers and film-making programs, and students are well-rounded and clear on the very hard course of life they have chosen for themselves. 4. Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh. Founded in 1914 — 10 years before Yale’s drama school — CMU has produced winners of six Oscars, 24 Tonys and 95 Emmys. And, 5. London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, London. Open since 1861, LAMDA sends lots of grads across the pond.

Variety, June 3rd – California Film Tax Credit Selections Total 28 of 380 Applications, by Dave McNary.

A total of 28 productions have been selected to receive California’s Film and Television Tax Credit — the same number as was selected last year. The California Film Commission, which administers the program, conducted a lottery to determine the winners. With only $100 million in credits available annually demand far exceeds supply. And a significant amount of the credits are already committed to TV series that are continuing to shoot in California. Past recipients of the credit include Oscar Best Picture winner “Argo,” “Gangster Squad,” Halle Berry indie feature “The Hive” and TV series “Body of Proof,” “Rizzoli & Isles” and “Pretty Little Liars.”
