Hi everybody, I’m Brett Walkow of the Actors Reporter and welcome to the TradeVine. Our goal at the TradeVine is to help you stay informed and to keep up with some of the entertainment news you may have missed in the Trades, such as The Hollywood Reporter, Daily Variety, and Backstage.

Back Stage, October 15th – 5 Acting Lessons from ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ By David Patrick Green. “The Wizard of Oz” is one of the most famous and beloved movies of all time. It is a story of an innocent little girl torn from her homeland and placed in the middle of a strange and hostile world. Sound a little bit like your journey to Hollywood? Here are five things actors can learn from “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”: To get what you want, you have to know what you want, Be kind and helpful to others, Don’t get distracted, Be the boss, and Believe in yourself.

Hollywood Reporter, October 16th – Power to the Pixel Keynote Speaker Says Movies Will Need to Expand on Audience Experience, by Stuart Kemp. Citing a desire to squeeze more from big budget investments, Fourth Wall Studios co-founder Sean Stewart says the creatives and the consumers are becoming more closely aligned. The best-selling fantasy sci-fi novelist turned transmedia hit maker delivered his keynote focusing on the changing relationship between author and audience and how it is transforming the art of storytelling. He noted that, according to a recent piece of Google research, 77 percent of audiences watching television are using other connected devices, be they laptops, smart phones or desktops. The message he delivered was that hardware will mean changes to the way stories are told, in the same way that the invention of the printing press and mass-produced books changed the market for the written word.

Daily Variety, October 16th – 3net launches 3D production division, by AJ Marechal. The 3D cabler 3net has launched 3net Studios, a global TV production and distribution division to be based at both Sony Pictures in Los Angeles and Discovery Communications in Silver Spring, Md. Banner will produce high-quality native 3D content to air on 3net, a 24/7 3D channel from Sony, Discovery and Imax that debuted in early 2011. With the industry now struggling to keep pace with the rapidly accelerating consumer demand for 3D programming across multiple platforms, the formation of this world-class production studio will help fill both the 3D and ultra high definition content voids, and evolve 3net into a global player in the entertainment arena.

Well, that’s it for the TradeVine this week. I’m Brett Walkow. Thank you very much for watching. And remember, You heard it through the Tradevine!
