Backstage – Backstage Experts Give 6 Ways to Determine Your Type, by Backstage Staff

So much of the business of being an actor is the ability to understand and influence how people view you. From casting directors and agents, to directors and co-stars, nailing down your “type” will go a long way in your ability not only to narrow down the auditions you should be applying for, the way you should dress in the room, and the sort of headshots you should be using, but it’ll also give you a better idea of the shows and films that could be right for you!
Apply to film and TV casting calls!

We rounded up some top advice from Backstage Experts to help you nail down your type. Know the current playing field.
“Write down three shows you could see yourself on. Series regular, guest star, costar…whatever. There are about 30 shows filming in New York right now. Watch them, learn from them, observe what kind of actors they are casting. Take notes. Look up the casting director and the actors. If you are right for that show, and are trained, and they cast your type over and over, then by all means sign up for a casting director workshop to meet them in person. If you are over 50 and play ‘extraterrestrial’ roles all the time, probably don’t sign up for a soap opera casting workshop.” —MATT NEWTON.

The Hollywood Reporter – Batwoman to Get New Ongoing Comic Series, by Aaron Couch

Marguerite Bennett is writing the series with art by Steve Epting. Here’s some good news for Batwoman fans — just in time for New York Comic Con. DC Entertainment is launching a new monthly series starring Kate Kane (Batwoman) from writer Marguerite Bennett and artist Steve Epting. The series, Batwoman, will debut in February. Variety – Lee Daniels Returns to Direct Richard Pryor Biopic, Jay Z to Produce, by Dave McNary
Lee Daniels has committed to directing The Weinstein Company’s Richard Pryor biopic with Jay Z on board to produce.

The Weinstein Company had decided in May to postpone the project, titled “Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said,” after Daniels, the showrunner of Fox’s hit series “Empire,” left the helming gig when he was unable to fit the movie shoot into his schedule. A start date is now set for early 2017.
Harvey Weinstein announced Thursday that the project was back on track. He unveiled the news at a press conference for the upcoming docuseries on Kalief Browder. TWC and Jay Z are teaming up to produce a TV series about the Bronx high school student who killed himself in 2015 after spending three years on Rikers Island for allegedly stealing a backpack.
