Backstage – 19 Things Casting Directors Want You to Know, by Jackie Reid


I recently attended a social function for industry folks. I was having a great time hanging out with other managers, agents, and casting directors, when I was cornered by two prominent casting directors with very serious looks on their faces. Knowing that I write a monthly column for Backstage, they came to me with a special request: publish a list of what casting directors really want you to know. The real deal, the down and dirty—as long as they could stay anonymous. Covertly handing me the list you’re about to read, the CDs melted back into the crowd. So here is their list.
1. Be completely off-book when you attend a callback. You embarrass us in front of our clients when you show up and still do not have the material memorized.

Learning to become a filmmaker used to be much simpler: All you needed was a 16mm camera, a few scraps of film stock and an inspirational teacher. But these days, film schools are considered useless unless they offer state-of-the-art augmented reality labs, high-end digital Steadicams and at least one course taught by James Franco — all of which makes applying to these institutions more confusing than ever before.

Variety – Amy Schumer Says Her Show Isn’t Cancelled After Hinting at Its End, by Debra Birnbaum


UPDATED: Amy Schumer’s four-season run of “Inside Amy Schumer” on Comedy Central is not coming to an abrupt end, after all.
The comedian said on Thursday morning that “‘Inside Amy Schumer’ is not cancelled,” but on hiatus for the “foreseeable future” after hinting at the end of the hit sketch series in a cryptic tweet on Wednesday night, amidst the social media firestorm brewing over staff writer Kurt Metzger’s incendiary comments about sexual assault.
