Through 4th July – San Diego County Fair at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. San Diego’s annual county fair is the largest fair in California, offering a variety of food, entertainment, exhibits, rides & games throughout the beautiful and historical Del Mar Fairgrounds in the oceanfront village of Del Mar.

Through 9th July – New York Asian Film Festival. A two-week orgy of popular Asian cinema, this is the film festival that The New York Times calls “one of the city’s most valuable events.” New York, NY.

Through 26th August – Friday Night Wine Testing. Barnsdall Park’s wine tastings perched atop Olive Hill in the west lawn of historic Hollyhock House (which you can tour during the evening for $12), the Barnsdall Friday fundraisers include fine selections of boutique wines provided by Silver Lake Wine with a spectacular sunset and 360-degree views of the city. 1st July – Hollywood Bowl. A Prairie Home Companion. Let Garrison Keillor’s voice instantly lower your stress levels at a live broadcast of this long-running radio show. Before he hands over hosting duties to Chris Thile, Keillor is embarking on a farewell tour of the show he’s hosted since 1974. 1st July – 5th September – Grammy Museum. Ladies and Gentlemen, The Beatles. In honor of the 50th anniversary of the Fab Four arriving stateside, the Grammy Museum is showcasing more than 400 pieces of memorabilia, recordings, videos and photos of the mop-topped musicians, and the Beatlemania that followed them. 1st-4th – Anime Expo. Los Angeles’ Anime Expo is one of the nation’s premier anime and manga conventions. Each year, thousands of otakus from all over the world flock to the L.A. Convention Center for four days of Japanese pop culture excitement. 2nd July – Eat/See/Hear Outdoor movie festival. What better way to celebrate the city of Los Angeles than an affordable event that combines movies, music and food trucks? Good luck trying to think of something better than Eat|See|Hear, which is exactly what it sounds like: popular movies shown outside on the biggest screen West of the Mississippi, food from local food trucks and local bands providing pre-show entertainment all summer long. Catch them every Saturday from May until September, and don’t forget to bring your pup to this dog-friendly event! Eat See Hear

2nd-4th July – Huntington Beach 4th of July celebration. Huntington Beach 4th of July Celebration is a three-day festival in honor of America’s Independence Day. It hosts live music and dance performances, a grand fireworks show, a huge pancake breakfast picnic (we know—it sounds awesome) and a 5k run. Its fireworks show is world-renowned, lasting approximately 23 minutes with a total of over 1,300 rounds of fireworks – 500 of them during the finale in the last 40 seconds of the show. Each year, the festival attracts over 150,000 onlookers, making it one of the most popular 4th of July celebrations in the nation. HB 4th of July

3rd July – U.R. Art Festival at Bergamot Station. UR Art Festival



4th July – The Irvine Police Association’s 32nd annual Concert on the Green and fireworks festival at Irvine high school football stadium.
The family-friendly patriotic event features a color guard presentation, live musical performance by the Derek Bordeaux Group, field games and activities, raffle prizes, several gourmet food trucks, and the sky concert and fireworks show by Pyro-Spectulars. Irvine, CA. Irvine PA

4th July Block Party. This 4th of July Block Party takes place between Temple and Second Streets in downtown Los Angeles. Each year, it launches one of the city’s most dazzling rooftop fireworks displays for all to enjoy after an evening filled with live music and cheer. At this block party, everyone is a neighbor and welcome to come out to the downtown area to take part in the festivities. Attendees can enjoy music of all genres on three different stages and sample some of the best distinctly American foods from local restaurants and food trucks. Grand Park LA

7th July – 8th September – Twilight Concerts. Santa Monica Pier. Each year, this free summer concert series wows with local, up-and-coming talent that concert-goers are already bragging they saw “back when.” Each Thursday from July through September, Santa Monica Pier hosts live music that’s 100% free. Pack a picnic, arrive early to get a spot on the sand near the speakers and enjoy, as the sunset sets with crashing waves in the distance—it’s a quintessential LA music experience and one of the best parts about summers in LA. 7th July – After Dark: Reinvent your Thursday nights at After Dark. Experience a fascinating array of unique, adult-only programs and events that change each week. Grab dinner by the Bay, play with hundreds of hands-on exhibits, crawl through our pitch-black Tactile Dome, sip cocktails, and explore. BY Obeests. Celebrate strandbeests—and their many mutant relations—with a menagerie of creatures inspired by Theo Jansen’s kinetic art. Encounter walking machines made with 3-D printed plastic, paper, and metal, variously powered by propellers, pedals, arduino-controlled motors, and string. 8th-9th July: Hollywood Bowl: Star Trek in concert. There’s no better way to experience J.J. Abram’s relaunch of the Star Trek series than while sitting under the stars at the Hollywood Bowl. Relive the interstellar adventure as the LA Phil performs Michael Giacchino’s incredible film score; David Newman conducts the exciting concert as the 2009 film plays out on the big screen. 13th-17th July – Marfa Film Festival. The Marfa Film Festival has attracted talented filmmakers, international press, industry professionals, and attendees from around the world to a remote corner of far west Texas. Over 5 days we screen a diverse mix of features, shorts, music videos, and experimental works, including a full afternoon schedule followed each evening by outdoor classics screenings in a starlit desert, with special happenings and spaces.

14th July – Summer After-School Special With Jesse Hawthorne Ficks. Jesse Hawthorne Ficks of Midnites for Maniacs returns with a mediated program that invites you to look past the irony and nostalgia of 1970s after-school specials so you can discover their emotional core. Ficks encourages self-reflection and exploration of your response to this niche genre. Featuring: A Genuine Tribute to Jodie Foster’s ABC After-School Specials, Rookie of the Year (1973, 60 min., 16mm), and The Secret Life of T.K. Dearing (1975. 45 min., 16mm). Exploratorium



14th-6th Aug – Don’t Knock the Rock Film Fest. Music and film nerds gather at The Silent Movie Theater in Los Angeles to celebrate the love, lust and madness of all pop, rock and roots film and music. Don’t Knock the Rock showcases music documentaries with classic performances and vintage footage of legendary artists at the pinnacle of their careers. 16th July – Long Beach Sea Festival. The beach is a hell of a lot more fun than just laying on a towel, taking in rays and avoiding Jaws. From June to September, Long Beach comes alive with an assortment of seaside activities. 26th-31st – The Traverse City Film Festival was co-founded in 2005 by the Oscar-winning filmmaker Michael Moore with the lofty goal of helping “save one of America’s few indigenous art forms—the cinema.” The festival, held in Traverse City,Michigan, screens independent, documentary, and foreign films that are capable of enlightening and entertaining at the same time, benefiting the art of movie making instead of focusing on the bottom line.
