1st April – French/Cuban twin sisters Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Diaz roll into town singing their songs in both English and the Nigerian language Yoruba (in which “Ibeyi” means “twins). Daughters of famous late Cuban percussionist Anga Diaz of the Buena Vista Social Club, the two followed in his footsteps, studying the folk songs of their father’s Yoruban culture. Now the two are working on an eponymous debut full-length album, due out this year. In the meantime, the ladies will perform an intimate show at Hollywood Forever’s Masonic Lodge.

stripped stories

4th April – Stripped Stories. Each Stripped Stories show has a strict no-recording policy. In fact, audience members must pledge to not even speak, after leaving, of what they heard that night. Producers and hosts Margot Leitman and Giulia Rozzi enforce this in order to create an environment where guest performers can be candid, a necessary ingredient in any story about sex. The theme never changes, nor does it need to; Stripped Stories has been titillating audiences with memories of romps in the hay since 2007, when the show first started in New York. Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre (UCB Sunset)

Through April 5th – The 36th Hong Kong International Film Festival. HKIFFS announced Miriam YEUNG as the ambassador and revealed the opening film of this year: Love in the Buff, the latest work by the Hong Kong film industry’s renowned director, Pang Ho-cheung, starring Miriam Yeung and Shawn Yue.

jenny lewis

7th April – Indie rock’s darlingest red head Jenny Lewis left her low-key pop band Rilo Kiley in 2007, but as a solo act, she’s still at it. This spring, the Vegas-born singer-songwriter performs two SoCal shows (at The Glass House and Pappy & Harriet’s), playing from last summer’s album The Voyager. Snag your seats now to witness Lewis’s undoubtedly hypnotic (and muy hummable) new tunes.

fleetwood mac

April 10th – Fleetwood Mac. Though the band has been touring heavily for the last couple years, there’s new reason to shell out big bucks for the eternally great Mac. Sixteen years after leaving the band, Christine McVie has returned for the aptly named On With the Show tour, making its second stop in LA at the Forum. This means we can again hear her sing “Everywhere,” “Hold Me” and “Think About Me,” which is a very, very good thing. Oh, and Lindsey Buckingham is still the coolest.
