Our goal at the TradeVine is to help you, the actor, stay informed and to keep up with some of the entertainment news you may have missed in the Trades, such as The Hollywood Reporter, Daily Variety, and Backstage.

Back Stage, May 22nd – James Earl Jones Got His First Job from Back Stage, By Molly Horan. Many know him as the voice of Darth Vader from “Star Wars,” but before he was a star, Earl Jones was another struggling actor. An accomplished actor of screen and stage, Earl Jones has starred in four Broadway plays in the last 10 years. He is nominated for a Tony award this year for “The Best Man.” His advice, “Keep reading Back Stage. That’s how I got my first job.”

The Hollywood Reporter, May 21st – Larry King Enters the Cable Hall of Fame Laughing, by Alex Ben Block. The former CNN talk show host is one of six inducted at the 15th annual a dinner, which set a record by raising $1 million for the non-profit service organization. Larry King couldn’t stop smiling as he took the stage to be honored to the Cable Hall of Fame during a gala dinner on the first night of the annual National Cable and Telecommunications Association convention.  Following a record 25 years on the air with the same show, Mr. King starts later this year as the star interviewer on Ora.tv, a new online network. Congratulations Larry King.

Daily Variety, May 22nd – Italo biz gets government boost, By Nick Vivarelli. Italian Culture Minister Lorenzo Ornaghi and a high-powered Italo delegation came to Cannes on Tuesday to launch a new government effort to promote Italian cinema internationally and also to reassure the Italian film industry that Italy’s government has its concerns on its agenda. The country’s Culture and Foreign ministries, and also the Italian Trade Commission and Italy’s Tourism Authority, will now be working together on a major promotional push for Italo pics in foreign film markets, one aspect of which will involve providing cash incentives to foreign distributors that release Italian films theatrically. North America will figure prominently in the effort, since 2013 will be the year of Italian Culture in the U.S., a series of programs sponsored by the Italian government.
