Hi everybody, I’m Roxy Shih of the Actors Reporter and welcome to the TradeVine. Our goal at the TradeVine is to help you, the actor, stay informed and to keep up with some of the entertainment news you may have missed in the entertainment trades, such as The Hollywood Reporter, Daily Variety, and Backstage.

Back Stage, June 12th – In the Advice section, The Actor’s Website: Dos and Don’ts, by Taryn Southern. This article offers the Top 5 Mistakes Made and the top 5 Essentials Actors need for their Websites. Here are just a few. 1. Amateur Design – Always look at a portfolio of someone’s work before hiring them. 2. Third person updates – It’s YOUR website, so people expect for it to be personal. 3. Overly pompous language – Think like a journalist and stick to facts. What are your credits? Hobbies? Feel free to be funny, just not egotistical. Okay, so enough about mistakes, here’s what you absolutely NEED! 1. A business email – In addition to your agents/managers info, you need a way to be reached at all times. 2. Embedded reels – Make sure your reels are easy to find. 3. Photos – Include promotional photos, press photos (if you have them), and/or behind the scenes shots of you on set. 4. Social media links. And, 5. Bio – A good bio goes a long way. You can include your credits on this page as well.

Daily Variety, June 26th – Spotify makes music with Yahoo! By Andrew Barker. Continuing to expand its reach through cross-media partnerships, music streaming service Spotify announced a global content distribution and promotion deal with Yahoo! Yahoo! will integrate Spotify functionality into its Media Networks starting with Yahoo! Music, then gradually rolling out to its other platforms. Yahoo! will also create an app for Spotify’s platform featuring its own entertainment content. Now active in 15 countries, Spotify has amassed a reported 3 million paying subscribers, with considerably more using the free version of its service.

The Hollywood Reporter, June 26th – Actors Unions SAG-AFTRA and FIA Welcome Intellectual Property Treaty, by Scott Roxborough. SAG-AFTRA and the International Federation of Actors (FIA) have welcomed the signing of a new international treaty, which aims to protect the intellectual property rights of film and television performers worldwide. Many in the industry see the signing of the WIPO treaty as a major step towards protecting intellectual property in a global, digitalized world. The treaty, the result of years of negotiations, will provide a legal framework to protect and strengthen actors’ rights to their work.
