Hi everybody, I’m Brett Walkow of the Actors Reporter and welcome to the TradeVine. This weeks trades are filled with great advice and many upcoming events. Be sure not to miss out on any of the fun. Our goal at the TradeVine is to help you stay informed and to keep up with some of the entertainment news you may have missed in the Trades, such as The Hollywood Reporter, Daily Variety, and Backstage.

Back Stage, August 1st – Maggie Schuster on a Manager’s Role for Young Actors, by Simi Horwitz. Managing the careers of working actors varies with each client, especially young ones. Duties range from making sure that a client reports to the set on time to helping them make creative decisions in connection with upcoming projects. She says the best way for an undeveloped actor to make himself manager ready is to really listen to the manager. The manager’s job is to counsel and advise, and that rule never changes, although the circumstances may. So listen and choose a manager that’s right for you and your career. Something else Ms. Shuster faces with young actors is rejection. They don’t understand that a lot of factors go into the casting process. As a manager, she understands that dealing with rejection is a major obstacle for the young actor, and tries to help her clients understand what has happened and why, from not booking a job to a television show getting canceled.

The Hollywood Reporter, Aug 6th – The Hollywood Reporter Launches Exclusive Emmys App, by the THR Staff. iPhone users can get news coverage, exclusive photos, videos, social feeds, updates and analysis from this year’s Awards. The app packages THR’s top coverage and analysis of the 2012 Emmy Awards, with reporting from The Race Blog and features such as nominees in all categories, bios and a roundup of Emmy-related tweets from nominees, stars and entertainment industry experts. There also will be live updates within the app on Emmy night, Sunday, Sept. 23 with winner announcements, live blogging from THR’s top television and fashion editors, and more. The Hollywood Reporter Emmys app is available for free download from iTunes.

Daily Variety, Aug 7th – Montreal World Film Festival unveils its slate, by Jennie Punter. The Montreal World Film Festival announced its full slate of 432 films from 80 countries, including 110 world or international premieres. Montreal will open with Lisheng Lin’s “Million Dollar Crocodile,” about an escaped reptile and his young human protector. Also, the fest includes China Film Business Week, centered around a delegation representing four Chinese film groups, along with the First Films World Competition and Montreal’s new World Greats program. The festival runs from August 23rd to September 3rd. Sounds like a great time to head to Canada.
