Hello everybody, I’m Yi Tian of the Actors Reporter and welcome to the TradeVine 2011. This week, we’ve gathered some of the more interesting articles that you might have missed while you were busy making resolutions. The year has changed, but our goal hasn’t. The TradeVine is here to help you stay informed and to keep up with the trades, such as The Hollywood Reporter, Daily Variety, and Backstage.

Back Stage, December 30th, 2010-January 5th, 2011, “Rethink your resolutions,” by Dallas Travers. Let’s face it. No one really keeps their New Year’s resolutions. Dallas knows she hasn’t. Admitting so has allowed her to finally start accomplishing her goals. You can do it do. Here’s how. First, narrow our goals down to fewer than three. Second, make your goals measurable by setting a timeline and defining exactly what the endgame looks like. Next, create an action plan, which provides structure and gives you a lot of freedom and confidence. Then, with your plan in place, identify what bad habits prevent you from committing and moving quickly toward what you want. Want more information from Dallas Travers? Daily Variety, Monday, January 3rd, “It’s still viva Las Vegas with vintage stars,” by Peter Bart. With the new movies dying and superstar vehicles underperforming, Peter Bart decided last week to visit dead people. The biggest stars in Las Vegas are still Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley, and the shows featuring their voices and movie clips are packing them in. their success provides a forceful, if spooky, reminder about the power of the brand. It’s as though Vegas was telling Hollywood: Why pay for Johnny Depp or Reese Witherspoon when you might digitally recreate James Dean or Fred Astaire? To many of the younger visitors Elvis and Sinatra are still the stars of the moment.

The Daily Variety, Tuesday, January 4th, an article that shows that Europe has run the “political incorrect” road. The article is entitled, “New media law creates stir,” by John Nadler out of Budapest. Hungary’s government, led by the conservative Fidesz party, lashed out at international criticism of a media law that came into effect Saturday, the same day Hungary assumed the rotating presidency of the European Union. The law’s detractors say clauses in the bill, which give a central media authority headed by a government-appointed chairman the right to fine TV stations, radio outlets and newspapers almost $1 million for content deemed “Not politically balanced” or offensive to “human dignity,” will stifle free expression. It’s understandable that a local Hungarian newspaper ran the headline “Freedom of the press in Hungary has come to an end.”

Well, that’s it for the TradeVine this week. I’m Yi Tian. Thank you very much for watching. And remember, You heard it through the Tradevine!
