Hello everybody, I’m Danika Quinn of the Actors Reporter and welcome to the TradeVine February 2011, the month of love. It has been a great week in the industry and we’ve found some articles we thought you shouldn’t miss. We perused the trades for not only news, but the more interesting articles to help you, the actor, and anyone interested in the industry. Our goal here at the TradeVine is to help you stay informed and to keep up with the trades, such as The Hollywood Reporter, Daily Variety, and Backstage.

Backstage, January 27th-February 2nd, 2011. In the Advice section, “Loving the process,” reported by Simi Horwitz. Antonia Dauphin, who has her own New York-based company, Antonia Dauphin Casting, talks about making choices, asking questions, and being present. First, what gets you in the door? Antonia looks at email submissions from actors, whether or not they have representation. She often considers these submissions if she is casting a student film or a role that’s hard to fill. On occasion, she’ll even discover a young actor with little experience. Antonia likes headshots that are a representation of the actor, they should be clear, direct, natural, and never posed. Also, in the audition, an actor who comes into the room with a definitive idea of who the character is, what he’s doing, and where he’s going is most likely to get a callback. Even if it’s the wrong idea, it shows her that the actor has thought about it and can probably take direction.

Daily Variety, Monday, January 31st, We don’t normally cover obituaries, but Jack LaLanne, who was a fitness guru on TV for more than 30 years with “The Jack LaLanne Show,” passed away. He was 96. Jack LaLanne has been credited for bringing fitness and exercise into the living room. According to former California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jack LaLanne “laid the groundwork for others to have exercise programs, and now it has bloomed form that black-and-white program into a very colorful enterprise.” Most recently, LaLanne hit the Internet with “Jack LaLannne Live!.” Jack LaLanne, truly a trend setter. Thank you Jack.

Daily Variety, Tuesday, February 1st, In the Inside Moves section, “L.A. stadium gets Farmers name,” by Stuart Levine. Los Angeles may not yet have an NFL team, but it does have a stadium name. At a press conference this week, local politicians and NFL officials plan to announce the city’s proposed downtown football venue, which will be called Farmers Field. Naming rights have been bought by Farmers Insurance Company for some $600 million and encompasses a 30-year term. This may be the largest naming rights pact in sports history. Danika Filed. I like the sound of that. Anyone have an extra $600 mill?
Hollywood Reporter, Online edition, February 1st, ‘Kennedys’ Miniseries Lands Home, Will Air on ReelzChannel.” After a three-week journey, ‘The Kennedys’ has found a home. The controversial miniseries about the Kennedy family will world premiere on April 3 on the ReelzChannel. Producers of the ambitious project from ‘24’ executive producer Joel Surnow and writer Stephen Kronish have struck a deal with the independent, family-owned cable network to air the 8-part miniseires, which was abruptly yanked from the History channel on January 7 amid pressure from the Kennedys over its depiction of the political family.
