Back Stage National Edition, November 11th-18th, 2010. Actorfest L.A. More than 3,000 people flocked to the California Market Center on November 6th to attend Back Stage’s annual tradeshow, Actorfest LA. The all-day event featured more than 25 workshops and panels led by casting directors, coaches, and Back Stage staff. Enjoy the video coverage of Actorfest 2010 by our own Actors Reporter host, Mary Jo Gruber at w w w dot Actors Reporter dot com.

Also in the Back Stage National Edition, November 11th-18th in the Advice section, the article is entitled “To flirt or not to flirt. When to use your seductive charms in auditions,” by Jean Schiffman. Everyone flirts differently. If you are auditioning for a role that requires flirting, here are some suggestions. First, you must flirt in your own personal, honest way within the circumstances of the script, with the qualities of the character you will be playing. Actors nearly always overdo flirting and thus do not play it honestly. It’s not about how you look when you flirt or how you think you should look or even how someone else looks when they flirt. It is about how you flirt and only that makes the acting organic and authentic.

Daily Variety, Monday, November 15th, 2010. “HBO Hooks Keaton,” by Stuart Levine. HBO has struck an unusually wide-ranging deal with Michael Keaton to develop a range of material for HBO. It looks like Michael Keaton will be executive producing, directing, and staring in different projects for HBO, including a series built around Keaton. The president of HBO programming, Michael Lombardo, said that Michael Keaton is a multifaceted talent who never fails to engage the audience in fresh ways. Wow seams like a dream deal for any actor. We look forward to seeing what Michael Keaton comes up with.

The Hollywood Reporter, November 17th, 2010. The Hot New A-List, Which actors are landing all the roles and why, by Jay A. Fernandez. Hollywood is banking on Chris Pine and a handful of other hot young actors, some of which you may not have heard of yet, as the old star system fades, power shifts, and paydays aren’t what they used to be. Some of the actors who are being brought up to the majors are Taylor Lautner from the Twilight series, Bradley Cooper, from Hangover, Ryan Reynolds, from X-Men Origins, and Sam Worthington from Avatar. Who will these young men be replacing for the action hero roles? Well, Russell Crow is 46 years old, Tom Cruise is 48, Johnny Depp is 47, Harrison Ford is 68, Will Smith is 42, and Bruce Willis is 55.

Daily Variety, Wednesday, November 17th, 2010. “Amazon adding scripts to its cart,” by David S Cohen. Having revolutionized retail shopping and become a major player in streaming video, Amazon.com has started a new initiative aimed at reinventing movie development. On Wednesday, the online giant launched Amazon Studios, a website designed to discover writing, directing and acting talent. In addition, Amazon Studios is kicking off a year long first-look deal with Warner Brothers, which has 32 deals with Amazon, the largest number among the majors. Think you can write? Direct? Act? Amazon appears to be the place to go.
