Got kids? Auditions, agents, and childcare are often the top three on an actor’s list of must-haves when juggling career and family. Actors are not the typical parent profile to whom daycare centers cater because of our sporadic employment, last minute auditions and night and weekend work.
With some initial internet research at the Actors Equity website, you will be able to uncover national and state referral resources that help actors identify childcare providers in the area where he or she is performing or shooting.
The Actors’ Equity Association, sometimes called “AEA” or just “Equity”, founded in 1913, is the labor union that represents more than 45,000 Actors and Stage Managers in the United States. Equity seeks to advance, promote and foster the art of live theatre as an essential component of our society.
ActorsEquity.org provides a national listing of agencies and websites to help actors with childcare issues and information.
Some of those National and State websites where you can get more information include the:
- National Association of Childcare Resource and Referral Agencies
Website - National Resource Center for Health and Childcare Safety
Website - The State of California Website
- The State of Illinois Website
- The New York State Website
- The State of Florida Website
Enjoy this issues video article which, in addition to the resources, provides some advice from Actor/Parents who have been in the acting trenches. For current child care resources for actors, please visit ActorsEquity.org
Whether you’re a stage, TV, film, and/or internet actor with children, the resources provided on the Actors Equity website may be just the childcare resource list you are looking for.

Very useful info; thank you.
Excellent podcast. I have friends who are actors that need childcare information. I’ll refer them to your site. Nice podcast!
