Highlights from September 2009 Calendar of Events

September 2nd – 12th: Going to Europe? The 66th Edition of the Venice Film Festival will be riding the 3-D wave, launching an award for the best stereoscopic 3-D feature film of the year. Director Ang Lee will be the President of the Jury. The film must have been produced between September 2008 and August 2009. Venice, Italy www.labiennale.org/en/cinema 

Sat Sept 5th: Please join me and our other Actors Reporter hosts at the 5th Annual Hollywood Screen Actors Guild Labor Day Picnic, from 11a to 3p, at the Camrose picnic area at the Hollywood Bowl. September 9th: JAMES HONG returns home to Minneapolis, MN for Central High School’s Class of January and June 1947 Reunion for Everyone is 80 (or almost) Celebration. 11:00 am at the Jensen’s Supper Club on 3840 Sibley Memorial Highway in Eagan, Minnesota 55122.

Sept 9th – 11th: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will present “Behind the Motion Picture Canvas: Film Formats Through the 21st Century” at the Samuel . www.emmys.tv

Sept 10th-19th: Toronto International Film Festival. Every year Toronto spotlights filmmakers in a different city. This year, its spotlight is on Tel Aviv filmmakers. Toranto, Ontario, Canada.

Sept. 13th: The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards is live Sunday, September 13 at 9PM. Beyonce will sing her hit, “Sweet Dreams” She is nominated for 9 trophies, tying Lady Gaga for the nominations lead.

Setp 16th-20th: The 16th edition of the Oldenburg Film Festival, Germany, for films outside the pure mainstream and also outside the typical art house.

COALITION OF ASIAN PACIFICS IN ENTERTAINMENT (CAPE)
Panel Series Sponsored by Sony Pictures Entertainment presents HOW DID THIS MOVIE GET MADE? from 1:00 pm 4:00 pm at the Korean Film Council (KOFIC-5509 Wilshire Blvd.; Los Angeles, CA 90036).
